As we already know, in these last two years we haven't had the much-loved free street carnival, however, with more than 80% of the Brazilian population vaccinated with at least the first dose and cultural events gradually returning, we can set high expectations for Carnival of 2023 that promises to come back with strength! Some blocks will no longer parade, after all, two years is a long time for someone who makes their living only from carnival.
When will the 2023 Carnival be in Rio de Janeiro?
According to the calendar planned in 2023, the holiday should start the weekend before Tuesday, officially between February 18 (Saturday) and February 21 (Tuesday), Ash Wednesday will be on February 22. The parades in Rio will take place on the 19th and 20th of February (Sunday and Monday). But it is also worth having the traditional pre- and post-Carnival outings, therefore occupying about a month of programming in total and, luckily for us, several street blocks do a Pre-Carnival and Post-Carnival in several cities in Brazil.
Sunday now, January 8, 2023, had the opening of Carnival with several street blocks throughout the city of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the party at Barra Olímpica, Rehearsals by Anitta, in Riocentro. The Carnival in Rio starts much earlier, and with the party we are so thirsty, just look at the Universo Spanta, a real warm-up for Carnival and which has already started on the 6th of January.
